Responce to " I Wonder" and "Further reflection Questions" in Chapter 1

I wonder..
1-Thinking about my school years, reminds me of Robert and his difficulties of having a personal connection to the reading selections. I remember that I was always wondering how those materials could help me in dealing with a real world issues that I was experiencing in my life. I was skeptical about the usefulness of those texts and I never enjoed them. Furthrmore, It deminished my interest in reading and learning. I also need to add that I'm talking about my school experience in Iran, since I haven't gone to school in the U.S., but still I can imagine a similar situation exists in this country and Indusrial Model reminds me of what I experienced in school.

2-The guiding assumptions about literacy instruction is that we should teach students according to the standards that emphasize certain learning materials that are unifrom across the country and the goal is to have a workforce that is accountable, punctual and compliance. Additionally, we need to prepare the students for standardized tests and teach them according to prepackaged reading materials that helps them handle these tests.

3-Teachers could consider other materials such as magazines, newspapers, videos and audioes bases on students interests and their diverse cultural , social and lingual backgrounds. This creates more interactions among students and makes classroom experience more useful and enjoyable.
Furthur reflections..
1-Following the guiding principles in this chapter enriches students' learnings. It also transforms a dull classroom environment to an alive and exciting one. A socially and culturally situated guidance helps the students to undrestand and interact with eachother. The purposefullness of literacy makes it more meaningful to the students, since they can see the effect of it in their real lives and how it give them tools to use in everydays matters. Inquiry-based learning is one of the most valuable principles of literacy guidance, since it helps to develope a life long habits of mind which is a great asset to have. Using a background knowledge to make sense of the text helps the students to create connections to to the content what they study,as a result, they they become more involved and interested in their tasks. Finally, including multimodal texts in literacy practices increases the ability of the teachers to appeal to individual students and their preferred modes of learning which they respond to the most.

2-Unlike the Guiding Principle, instruction in an Industrial Model leaves no space for flexibility. It ignores the cultural and social context in which learning is taking place. This model imposes limitted ways of learning that don't always fit the needs of individuals. This can cause students' disinterest and less involvement in class activities and learning and as a result makes the teachers' job and responsibilities more difficult and challenging.
